FirstClasse – When a new wave of modern hotels significantly altered the hospitality scene in Kuala Lumpur in the 1970s, Equatorial Hotel was among the first to open its doors—with its 300 guest rooms and a number of influential historical restaurants—forming a cluster in the Golden Triangle that helped usher in a new era of hospitality in Malaysia. Fast forward to 50 years later, the iconic hotel is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, and a year-long series of festivities will be held to mark the occasion.

Jamaica, 19 May 2023 - At the annual Preferred Global Conference in Jamaica, CEO Lindsey Ueberroth and President Michelle Woodley of Preferred Hotels & Resorts announced the winners, and EQ garnered Hotel of the Year – Asia Pacific.

Southeast Asia Building - The Green Building Index (GBI) Gold certification of Equatorial Plaza makes EQ the first Kuala Lumpur hotel to receive this notable recognition. Assessment by GBI consists of six criteria: Energy Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, Sustainable Site Planning & Management, Materials & Resources, Water Efficiency, and Innovation.

EatDrink – Beloved by countless diners for years, Golden Phoenix, in KL’s old Equatorial Hotel, was among the city’s most famed and beloved Chinese restaurants. Of course, the old Equatorial is no more, but just like its namesake phoenix, the beautiful EQ has arisen, and each year, they bring the legacy of the Golden Phoenix back to life, with dishes directly sourced from the cherished menu archives of the iconic restaurant.

EQ has just been named M&C Asia Stella Awards’ Best Meetings Hotel in Malaysia for 2022. The award honours excellence in the Asia Pacific meetings industry, and on 23 August 2022, Mr Gerard Walker, the General Manager of EQ, graciously accepted on behalf of the hotel, team and management.
